The presence of parasites in the body leads to serious health consequences. These include the development of allergies, general fatigue and decreased immune defenses, conditions of hypovitaminosis and anemia, as well as nervous system disorders, neurosis, insomnia and poor appetite. Proper treatment directed at the parasite, its larvae and eggs, as well as the use of drugs that will restore metabolic processes disturbed by the presence of uninvited guests in the body, can eliminate all these manifestations.
Eliminating parasites: general principles
First of all, the treatment aims to clean the bodies of the worms and their larvae completely. If at least one parasite remains in the body, it can cause re-infection. Medicines themselves are very much needed here, and this is due to the fact that many parasites are spread through dirty hands. In this case, even if the patient has taken medication for parasites, but at the same time ignores the rules of personal hygiene and is always in contact with the source of the parasite (person or animal), rapid re -infection is very possible.
Therefore, the treatment of parasites consists of two mandatory components:
- The use of parasitic drugs to remove them from the body.
- Prevention of re -infection (personal hygiene, disinfection of the house, personal items and surfaces, treatment of all family members, pets).
In addition, there is often a need for additional therapy for disorders caused by parasites due to their presence in the body.
Treatment of parasites
The basis of therapy against parasites that have been found in the body is the use of antiparasitic drugs. These drugs can affect both adults and their eggs and larvae. The selection of drugs against parasites should be handled exclusively by the physician after receiving the results of all necessary examinations and assessing the general condition of the patient. The administration of parasitic drugs for the treatment and prevention of worms is prohibited, and this is due to several factors. First, all drugs against parasites belong to a special group of chemotherapeutic agents, they have a strong toxic effect on living organisms. And the human body is no exception in this regard. The wrong dose or selection of drugs can damage the liver or kidneys, and in no way harm helminths.
Second, the doctor calculates the dose based on age and weight, using the drug to fight the parasite in the short term and the maximum allowable and safe dose.
Third, according to the results of the analysis, drugs for parasites are selected, which will be effective in this case, because different types of worms (as well as their larvae and eggs) die as a result of different types of drugs.
Drugs for parasites: drug classification
Drugs that affect parasites and their larval forms, eggs, are divided, depending on the effect on a particular group of worms, into several classes.
The first group is parasitic drugs that affect a class of nematodes. They are divided into two subclasses:
- Drugs that are active against intestinal nematodes.
- Drugs that act on extraintestinal nematode species.
The second group includes drugs that have an adverse effect on the cestode class. They also belong to two subgroups:
- Drugs that act on intestinal parasites.
- Drugs that lead to the destruction of the cestode outside the intestinal lumen.
The third group includes all drugs against parasites that act by chance. They are also divided into subcategories:
- Drugs that act on intestinal parasites.
- Drugs that lead to the destruction of the cestode outside the intestinal lumen.
A special place is occupied by drugs from the fourth group, which belong to a broad spectrum of action. This means that parasite repellents will be effective against most known worms.
Complementary therapy: treat allergies, improve well -being
In addition to antiparasitic treatment, medications are often used to improve the patient’s condition, normalize well -being and provide a general strengthening effect. In addition, due to strong body allergies when infected with parasites, allergy treatment with certain agents is also indicated. Allergies occur in response to the penetration and reproduction of parasites, foreign to the body, they can worsen during the mass death of parasites. Therefore, antihistamines are sometimes prescribed as a prevention of the occurrence of allergies against the background of helminthiasis treatment.
To relieve poisoning, remove waste products and antigens from parasites, especially if there is an obvious allergy, while taking antelmintic medications, simultaneous intake of antihistamines and sorbents is indicated. Moreover, inhalation and anti-allergy therapy began about three days before taking the main medication and continued for at least 5 days thereafter.
Often, helminthiases cause disruption of the intestinal microbial flora, and it is therefore recommended to use fermented dairy products, plant foods and probiotic prevention methods to restore normal biocenosis. During treatment, it is advisable to exclude irritating foods, heavy foods, dense foods and excess protein from the diet. The most useful are soups and stews of light vegetables, cereals and dairy products. It is important to consume plenty of fluids to actively remove toxins from the body.
